Project Description

Hesperus, Colorado

This home was the first Timber Frame home I had built. It featured locally milled trim, Knotty Alder cabinets and flooring. While the look is simplistic on the outside (it is basically a 32’ x 32’ two story square with front and back covered porches), it provided the customer four 16’ x 16’ modules on each floor plus a bonus loft, keeping the pricing affordable.

  • Exterior Walls/Insulation:

6” Structurally Insulated Panels (Sips) Skin over Red Oak Timber Frame.

  • Heating/Cooling/Hot Water System:

Propane Hydronic Floor heat in concrete slab with hot water baseboard upstairs.  It was primarily heated during the winter months by a Jotul Wood Stove. No A/C was used in this house as it was designed to take advantage of the Passive/Solar orientation. This home featured a hot water recirculation system to provide instant hot water to all fixtures if the customer chose to do this.

  • Flooring and Trim:

Acid Stained Concrete Slab on 1st floor, 1 x 6 T&G locally milled pine for 2nd floor and loft. Locally milled knotty alder trim.

  • Roofing:

Galvalume Standing Seam Roof which should last 100+ years and provides excellent heat reflection in the summer months.
